Health-care sector vulnerable to hackers, researchers say

This is a new voice for Digital Planet, Inc. In wrapping up 2012 and rocketing into 2013, we will be using this sight to post news and issues of note that have an impact on our clients and our business. Our goal is to keep abreast of news and events that affect our community and friends and create a forum for discussion.

I recently came across this Washington Post article and felt the need to share the article with Rick Gurba, President, Digital Planet, Inc.

After reading Rick responded, "Physician practices and allied health providers should pay special attention to this in-depth Washington Post article where it describes the health care sector being vulnerable to hackers. The report identifies several common areas of deficiencies and points of entry for hackers."

In relation to the article, Gurba recommended, "An organization-wide computer and technology assessment by a qualified solution provider is highly recommended if one has not been completed within the past three years. Immediately following the assessment, a series of best practices should be implemented to avoid the common mistakes seen in a growing number of health care related business operations."
